Biarritz has always been a hugely popular seaside resort in southern France and in recent decades has become one of the most popular golfing resorts in this idyllic area.
Biarritz sits on the Bay of Biscay coast just 32 kms (20 miles) north of the border with Spain. Its southerly position ensures a warm Mediterranean climate that also benefits from the benefits of being warmed by the gulf stream all-year-round.
The location is ideal for vacations – and also for golf. Whatever the time of year the weather is always pleasant and most days, especially in summer, very hot and dry.
British Airways and Iberia both fly from London to San Sebastion which is just over the border into Spain. All flights include a 45-minute stop=over in Madrid so the journey time is normally 4-5 hours. San Sebastion is about 32 kms (20 mls) or 30 minutes from Biarritz by road. There is also a fast train from Hendaye (a short taxi ride from San Sebastion) to Biarritz. The journey from Hendaye to Biarritz by train takes about 25 minutes.
Biarritz is a delightful town with plenty of good hotels and restaurants. The scenery is also delightful with wonderful views over the Bay of Biscay. Biarritz also has eight wonderful golf courses that all get top reviews. They are also some of the best golf courses in France. All eight of the Biarritz Golf Courses are top quality courses with all the facilities such as buggies, club hire, good clubhouse and restaurants etc..
As Biarritz is a holiday resort as well as a golfing area, local hotels, as you would expect, are plentiful, high standard and good value.
We can strongly recommend the Biarritz Golf Courses. If you are used to playing the golf courses across the Channel in northern France then you will find them quite different but equally interesting and challenging. The wonderful weather is a particularly attraction and in our view is well worth the four hour flight!
